Sarah Stanley

Sarah Stanley is a self-taught, emerging, multidisciplinary artist. She’s been painting for as long as she can remember, but decided to try and go “pro” in 2025. She’s all about giving old materials a second chance — turning what might’ve ended up in the landfill into meaningful art. She uses acrylics, watercolors, inks, canvases, and recycled materials to create her work. While she doesn’t consider herself a specialist in anything, she certainly spends a lot of time painting beloved animals and helping pet parents memorialize a single moment with their furry loved ones. She is a proud cat and dog mom living in Ferndale, Michigan. Sarah sees the mundane as special and use her art to capture that. It’s not just a “cat;” it’s “Buzz” a beloved grump who passed away and whose family misses him every day. It’s not just a mustard tin; it’s the memories of cooking delicious (mustardy) food with mothers and grandmothers. She captures small emotions in a big way and does it with a variety of materials and sizes. She believes in using recycled and upcycled materials as much as possible because there’s a story in every piece of trash or scrap. Nothing is too small or too everyday to be celebrated. She tries to capture realism, but enjoys leaving in mistakes or imperfections and rough edges because it feels more authentic and human. Art should be playful and whimsical and she embraces that in her practice.
