About the Artist
Andrew Dall'Olmo's paintings revolve around themes of reverie and daydream. By absolving the horizon line of its conventional responsibility and permanence in our imagination Dall'Olmo blurs the boundary, creating an inter-space that allows ephemeral daydreams to manifest as static landscapes. These inter-spaces serve as contemplative spaces where reflection and respite may occur. Dall'Olmo's exploration of liminal spaces has been heavily influenced by his time spent on the East Arm of the Grand Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan, as well as the deserts of the American Southwest. These vast, open landscapes and expansive horizons provided a profound space for contemplation that sparked his interest in the in-between spaces; it is in these in-between spaces where the viewer can find themselves experiencing a sense of mono no aware, the realization of the pathos and ephemerality of all things. Andrew holds a BFA from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI, and an MFA from ArtCenter in Pasadena, CA. Currently, he is a resident artist at Hatch Art in Hamtramck, MI.
