About the Artist
David C. Giles is a painter, filmmaker, and creative director from Detroit, now based in Quillan in the south of France. His paintings begin with place, memory, and the feeling of being somewhere long enough for recognition to give way to something less certain. Built through layers, erasure, texture, and shifting light, the work holds onto fragments of the visible world while allowing the painting to develop its own reality. In 2026, Giles founded River Aude Artists Lab (RAAL), a nonprofit arts organization in Quillan supporting artists through residencies, exhibitions, workshops, figure drawing, and international exchange. RAAL is registered both as a French association under Loi 1901 and as a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections.
