Assemblage, 2022
This assemblage piece is made with A terra-cotta base that was recovered from the Eastowne theater built in 1929. On top of that sits a piece of marble recovered from the Lucy Thurman YWCA, the first black women's Y, built in Detroit in 1932. On top of that is a stained glass piece, of a window that came out of All Saints Church, built in 1927 it was located on Fort Street and Spring Wells. The blue and tan chunk of plaster also came from All Saints Church. The small square blue-green Pewabic tile also came out of the Lucy Thurman YWCA. This is one out of a series of assemblages made with bits and pieces of historical iconic buildings that have been demolished in Detroit over the last 35 years.

This is an open series of embellished prints that I develop from the original painting. This is painted on a plat map of the urban renewal project that took place in Detroit during the 1950s and 1960s. I used acrylic paint markers, Sharpie markers, and acrylic paint.
