About the Artist
Nickie Gunning is an interdisciplinary queer artist based in Metro Detroit. Their work has been exhibited nationally, at venues including the Swope Art Museum, Springfield Art Museum, Cranbrook Art Museum, and The Corcoran Gallery of Art. They have been asked to participate in large exhibitions such as Mighty Real/ Queer Detroit, Art South Hampton, and multiple artist residency programs. Gunning is the recipient of awards including the CERF+ Get Ready Grant, The Frank Swaim Award of Honor and The A.R.T. Award (Ambitious Risk Taker). They have been featured in publications that include The Washington Post, The Trans Mag, and Lansing State Journal. Gunning holds a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Corcoran School of Art + Design.
